April 2012 Guild Meeting
Yes, even though it was March 29th, this was the April 2012 Q.U.I.L.T.S. meeting. Since our March 2012 meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather, we had a lot to cover this evening. First up was Lynn Makrin and Kathie Greenwold from the guild’s Judging Study Group who provided an overview of what judges will be looking for and how quilts will be scored for those members wishing to have their quilts judged at our quilt show which will be held in September. Their presentation included a mock judging. A special Thank You! goes out to Lynn for taking the lead and all the ladies who participated in the Judging Study Group.
Bonnie Turner from Log Cabin Quilts (Ravena, NY) then took over the spotlight with her “Quilting Out of the Box – Traditions Meet Today” lecture and trunk show. Bonnie’s trunk show included works from her early years through the present – all the pieces were just beautiful!
Due to time limitations, a short members’ show & tell was presented. Those members who did not get the opportunity to show their quilts at this meeting are encouraged to bring them back at the may meeting.

2012 Winter Blues Sit N’ Sew
Approximately 25 Q.U.I.L.T.S. members met at the First Reformed Church of Scotia for our 3rd Annual Winter Blues Sit N’ Sew. Members enjoyed the camaraderie that goes hand and hand with quilting. Good friends, a beautiful view of Collins Lake and plenty of inspiration. What a perfect day!

February 2012 Guild Meeting
The February Guild Meeting is our traditional “Tie-In for Northeast Kids”. Guild members gather in groups to tie quilts which we then donate to Northeast Parent & Child. This year, those in attendance tied 14 quilts. A special thank you goes out to Gloversville Sewing Center, who graciously donates the battings for these quilts each year.
The evening also included a short business meeting and members’ show & tell.

January 2012 Guild Meeting
Guild Members rang in the first meeting of 2012 with a Mini-Workshop Program. Our own members provided demonstrations on how to use the Sizzix system, AccuQuilt and the Electric Quilt computer program. The evening also included our regular business meeting and always stunning show & tell.
Next month’s meeting is our Annual Tie-In for Northeast Kids. Members are asked to bring shears and their favorite large needle for tying quilts. Other supplies will be provided. This is a fun evening of camaraderie where guild members and guests sit around a table and chat while tying quilts. Volunteers from each table then take the tied quilts home and bind them, after which the quilts are brought back to a subsequent guild meeting for show & tell and collected for Northeast Parent & Child Society.

December 2011 Guild Meeting
Our annual holiday celebration brought guild members and guests together to share in delicious desserts and a dazzling display of Show & Tell. In anticipation of those New Year’s Resolutions to “finish those UFOs!” Kathie Greenwold presented several ideas to turn those UFOs, extra blocks and leftover fabric into quilts, wall hangings, purses and other types of fabric art.
As part of our holiday celebration and a long-term guild tradition, tables were piled high with gloves & mittens for the children at Northeast Parent & Child and personal care items for the women at the Family Life Center. A very special Thank You! to our guild members for their generous donations.

November 2011 Guild Meeting
At the November guild meeting, members shared recipes and holiday ornament patterns. In addition, they were “wowed” by a trunk show of Barbara Ackerly’s magnificent quilts and clothing.
Barbara Ackerly, quilter and clothing designer, lives in Cortland, NY. Barbara began sewing at age 7 and has never stopped. She started by making her own clothing. As an adult she worked in an undergarment factory. Later she took up quilting starting with a diamond patterned quilt; she jokes that the material was of poor quality and not quilt appropriate.
An avid hand quilter, Barbara also uses only a home machine for quilting. She incorporates beads, crystals and metallic threads into many of her quilts. She collaborates with her grandson on her original patterns. Her clothing is amazingly stunning with incredible quilting and intricate beadwork. Barbara has won first and second place for many of her quilts in local and regional quilt shows. Her works have been displayed in galleries and travelled with the Hoffman challenge. She has also co-judged at the New York State Fair from 2008 up to this year.

October 2011 Guild Meeting – Annual Sew-In for Northeast Kids
The October Guild Meeting was the Guild’s annual Sew-In for Northeast Kids. At this meeting, members work together to sew together tops for donation to the Northeast Parent & Child Society. The sewing began at 4:30 and continued into the evening, with a short break for pizza and a business meeting. Our new location (First Reformed Church of Scotia) worked out very well, as there was plenty of space and excellent lighting. There was no Show & Tell at this meeting.
Members should make their best attempt to return the completed quilt tops along with backing and binding fabrics by the December 2011 Guild meeting. This will allow the committee time to measure and associate battings so that these quilts can be tied during the February 2012 Tie-In.

September 2011 Guild Meeting
Tropical storms, flooding, earthquakes and tornados did not stop Q.U.I.L.T.S. from their first meeting of the new guild year at their new meeting location, the First Reformed Church of Scotia. Along the lines of this year’s theme “Traditional Quilting,” Barbara Arnold, NQA Teacher of the Year, presented a trunk show of antique quilts which she’s collected over the years, along with quilts she recreated based on some of these treasures. Barbara also stayed on to teach classes in Sashiko and Seven Sisters.

2011 Summer Cooler Sit N’ Sew
Our second annual Summer Cooler Sit N’ Sew was held on a beautiful Saturday in July at our new meeting location, The First Reformed Church of Scotia. Approximately 20 members attended and were delighted with our new meeting space. In addition to a spacious, well-light room, those in attendance were treated to a magnificent view of the beautiful gardens of the church grounds overlooking Collins Lake. The quilters had a very productive day, stitching, sharing and chatting with fellow quilters.
