{"id":924,"date":"2011-11-24T08:52:28","date_gmt":"2011-11-24T13:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quiltschenectady.org\/?p=924"},"modified":"2012-09-08T14:32:26","modified_gmt":"2012-09-08T19:32:26","slug":"november-2011-guild-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quiltschenectady.org\/?p=924","title":{"rendered":"November 2011 Guild Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"At the November guild meeting, members shared recipes and holiday ornament patterns.\u00a0 In addition, they were \"wowed\" \u00a0by a trunk show of Barbara Ackerly's magnificent quilts and clothing.\r\n\r\nBarbara Ackerly, quilter and clothing designer, lives in Cortland, NY.\u00a0 Barbara began sewing at age 7 and has never stopped. She started by making her own clothing.\u00a0 As an adult she worked in an undergarment factory.\u00a0 Later she took up quilting starting with a diamond patterned quilt; she jokes that the material was of poor quality and not quilt appropriate.\r\n\r\nAn avid hand quilter, Barbara also uses only a home machine for quilting.\u00a0 She incorporates beads, crystals and metallic threads into many of her quilts.\u00a0 She collaborates with her grandson on her original patterns.\u00a0 Her clothing is amazingly stunning with incredible quilting and intricate beadwork.\u00a0 Barbara has won first and second place for many of her quilts in local and regional quilt shows.\u00a0 Her works have been displayed in galleries and travelled with the Hoffman challenge.\u00a0 She has also co-judged at the New York State Fair from 2008 up to this year.\r\n\r\nGuild Meeting Program:<\/strong>\u00a0 \n\n \t
