January 2016 Guild Meeting
Sue Pettengill, owner of The Joyful Quilter, gave a very inspiring lecture on Slow Stitching. Everyone has their own personal story as to why they quilt. The bottom line is: Quilting has the power to heal us - quilting together makes us stronger, helps us through grief & illness, brings us joy, connects us, gives us hope & courage, makes us better problem solvers, makes us better people (generous), and inspires us to be more creative with everything in our lives. The Slow Stitching movement, launched by Mark Lipinski, is a cure for today's need for speed & greed. It is defined as "Approaching your craft being fully present & deliberately intentional in order to be in a relationship with your creative self." Sue ended her presentation by challenging us to work on our craft by spending 20 minutes a day being totally mindful at every step of the process.
