Upcoming Meeting – February 1, 2024

Happy 2024!

Our first in person guild meeting of the year will be held on February 1st.  This will be a working meeting, as it is a sew-in for the Straight From the Heart Kids’ Quilts.  Here’s a message from the kids' quilts co-chairs:

As you are aware, we are no longer tying quilts for Northern Rivers in order to improve the quality of the quilts we donate.  We currently have 70 tops that need to be moved along to finishing.  Activities planned for the evening include:  learning to baste quilts using pool noodles (and basting some); learning basic straight stitch machine quilting; machine quilting of tops; cutting, sewing & pressing binding; piecing fabric for backings.   Please bring whatever supplies you will need for the activity(ies) you will be participating in such as: your sewing machine & supplies, including a walking foot; rotary cutters; curved pins for basting, etc.

Members who come early to work can sign up to be included in the pizza count (please refer to the email from Quilts Programs which was sent January 14, 2024).  Bring your own beverages!  And desserts to share will be welcome, too!

There will be the usual activities such as the fat quarter drawing (birds for January and St. Patrick’s Day and greens for February), goody bags, name tag drawing … but no Show & Tell since it is a working meeting.  Lisa Wend will be accepting Veterans’ Quilts and Block of the Month blocks.  She will also have a new Block of the Month for you to pick up.

Here is the schedule:

4:00 - Sewing starts

5:30 - Pizza for sew-in workers who sign up

7:00 - Short business meeting

8:00 - Sewing finishes up

8:30 - Finish putting away tables and chairs and depart

A couple of notes:

- Please don’t arrive before 3:50 unless you are helping to set up tables and chairs

Please complete and submit the form that was included in the January 14th email from Quilts Programs so organizers know how many tables to set up and how much pizza to order. Your response is requested by January 30th.
