October 2009 Guild Meeting – Annual Sew-In for Northeast Kids
The annual sew-in, normally held in November, was held in October this year due to scheduling of guest speakers for our November meeting. The Guild tried something new this year. We started at 4pm so that we could get a lot more sewing done. This worked out very well as many quilt tops were completed during the course of the evening & many teams began 2nd tops. Program Committee Co-chair Kathleen Morris organized the sew-in by having members sign up to be on teams (9 teams total) at the September meeting and to indicate which sewing items they were bringing (machines, cutting implements, irons, etc) and when they would be arriving. Most members arrived for the 1st shift (4-4:30) and a handful arrived later. Pizza, salad & homemade cookies were served at 6pm, the normal business meeting was conducted @ 7pm along with Show & Tell. Sewing then resumed. Because of the early start time, the sew-in wrapped up early – around 8:30. Cleanup was done rather quickly and we vacated the Church by 9pm.
Members should return the completed quilt tops along with backing and binding fabrics by the December 2009 Guild meeting. This will allow the committee time to measure and associate battings so that these quilts can be tied during the February 2010 Tie-In.

September 2009 Guild Meeting
Returning and new guild members were welcomed back after a long and, hopefully, productive quilting summer. Members were treated to an interesting and enjoyable presentation by Quilter, Teacher, Appraiser and Judge, Kathie Greenwold. Kathie’s topic of the evening was “Quilts of the Adirondacks.” The presentation included a wonderful trunk show featuring many of Kathie’s collection of 19th and 20th century quilts which were either made in the Adirondacks or inspired by the Adirondacks and upstate New York. Kathie discussed the differences of fabrics, quilting techniques and batting used by quilters in the Midwest vs. quilters on the East Coast.
Did you know that Quilters on the East Coast and in the Adirondacks in particular, had access to many types of quality fabrics due to the abundance of textile factories, rivers and seaports?
The evening included a wonderful display of quilts created by our members.

June 2009 Guild Meeting
This was our annual “pot-luck” end of year dinner with absolutely delicious main dishes, salad, appetizers & desserts all made by members. Guild workshop & challenge quilts and blocks were shown this evening. There were crazy quilt blocks from the past Guild year’s embellishment workshop, Kathie Greenwold’s “I can’t bear to cut it” workshop, the year-long mystery quilt challenge, and the “dots & dashes” quilt challenge.

This month’s program was devoted to Mother’s Day. Long-time guild member Betty Betz gave a brief history of her family accompanied by a wonderful presentation of her mother’s quilts. All 27 quilts displayed were hand-quilted. The program also included a delightful Show & Tell of our Guild members’ vintage quilts made by mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, aunts, etc.
