Next Guild Meeting: November 5, 2026 and Some Updates

Our November meeting will be our “Straight From the Heart” sew-in for kids quilts. Members can start arriving at the First Reformed Church of Scotia (224 N. Ballston Ave. (Route 50) as early as 4:30 PM. Our Straight From The Heart Kids’ Quilts chairperson will provide kits, fabric, batting, etc., for us to prep for, start, make or advance small quilts for children being cared for at the agencies we support – Northern Rivers, Things Of My Very Own and a city agency that assists children. Those who come early can participate in a pizza and salad dinner. At 7:00 we have a brief business meeting and then it’s back to sewing. Or cutting, or ironing – there are lots of ways to help at sew-ins!

The weather is cooling off but our 2026 – 2027 workshop series is beginning to heat up. You’ll recall that the theme of this year’s series is “Back To Basics. Basically, we’ll be highlighting the “basic skills that are included in our classes, sometimes without realizing it!

Our first class of the year is on Saturday, October 24th with guild member Kathie Lutz. It’s called “Starting Up or Brushing Up and is appropriate for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced quilters. Then in November, on the 7th, guild member Paula Dunn is back with another Stack ‘N Whack class. This time we’ll be making “hexies. In the process of creating fun, and unpredictable!, designs, we’ll practice rotary cutting through numerous layers of fabric, using a pressing/seam stick (provided) to press seams open, analyzing pattern repeats, learning about pinning techniques, and more.
