April 2011 Guild Meeting
The title of this fun and informative meeting was “The Altered Cloth.” Program Committee members Kathie Greenwold and Marcy Jo Hess and guild member Mary Albers (Dyeing 2 Sew) set up demonstrations of several techniques quilters could use to create their own fabric designs. Stations were set up and QUILTS members were free to move about the room to watch the demonstrations and ask questions about Backyard Dyes & Tea Dyeing, Kool-Aid Dyeing for Wool, Wonder-Web Painting, Ink Pad Smears & Fabric Markers, Fabric Beads, Embossed Velvet, and Using Everyday Objects When Dyeing Fabrics.

March 2011 Guild Meeting
Q.U.I.L.T.S. March Guild Meeting was a combination meeting – garage sale and tie-in. This meeting was set aside to give members who wanted to clean out their sewing rooms a chance to set up a table and sell their unwanted sewing items to other guild members. When members weren’t selling or shopping, they tied-quilts that were left over from the February Tie-In for Northeast Kids. In addition to a short business meeting, members participated in a rather large show & tell, which included several quilts made for donation to Northeast Kids and the Injured Soldiers Program.

2011 Winter Blues Sit N’ Sew
Our second annual Winter Blues is now history. Approximately 20 Q.U.I.L.T.S. members met at the First United Methodist Church in Schenectady to sit and sew….and show & tell and visit with friends and spend a very enjoyable day. It was also a very productive day, as volunteers worked together to sew the black drapes that will be used at our quilt shows. Some members brought snacks to share, and the church also provided a platter or two of goodies for our enjoyment.

February 2011 Guild Meeting
Our annual “Tie-In for Northeast Kids” was an ‘overflowing’ success. Over 30 quilt tops and backings were paired with battings graciously donated by the Gloversville Sewing Center. Guild members had the opportunity to visit with other members over a good old-fashioned quilt tying. The tied quilts were taken home by volunteers who will finish the quilts by attaching the binding and bring them back to a future guild meeting where they will be collected and turned over to Northeast Parent & Child and given to a child in need. As for it being an ‘overflowing’ success, since we had so many quilt tops, there were several pairings left over and it was decided to hold a second tie-in at the March meeting.
The evening also included a short business meeting and members’ show & tell. Q.U.I.L.T.S. extends a special Thank You! to Gloversville Sewing Center for their generous donation of batting.
