February 2012 Guild Meeting
The February Guild Meeting is our traditional “Tie-In for Northeast Kids”. Guild members gather in groups to tie quilts which we then donate to Northeast Parent & Child. This year, those in attendance tied 14 quilts. A special thank you goes out to Gloversville Sewing Center, who graciously donates the battings for these quilts each year.
The evening also included a short business meeting and members’ show & tell.

January 2012 Guild Meeting
Guild Members rang in the first meeting of 2012 with a Mini-Workshop Program. Our own members provided demonstrations on how to use the Sizzix system, AccuQuilt and the Electric Quilt computer program. The evening also included our regular business meeting and always stunning show & tell.
Next month’s meeting is our Annual Tie-In for Northeast Kids. Members are asked to bring shears and their favorite large needle for tying quilts. Other supplies will be provided. This is a fun evening of camaraderie where guild members and guests sit around a table and chat while tying quilts. Volunteers from each table then take the tied quilts home and bind them, after which the quilts are brought back to a subsequent guild meeting for show & tell and collected for Northeast Parent & Child Society.

December 2011 Guild Meeting
Our annual holiday celebration brought guild members and guests together to share in delicious desserts and a dazzling display of Show & Tell. In anticipation of those New Year’s Resolutions to “finish those UFOs!” Kathie Greenwold presented several ideas to turn those UFOs, extra blocks and leftover fabric into quilts, wall hangings, purses and other types of fabric art.
As part of our holiday celebration and a long-term guild tradition, tables were piled high with gloves & mittens for the children at Northeast Parent & Child and personal care items for the women at the Family Life Center. A very special Thank You! to our guild members for their generous donations.

November 2011 Guild Meeting
At the November guild meeting, members shared recipes and holiday ornament patterns. In addition, they were “wowed” by a trunk show of Barbara Ackerly’s magnificent quilts and clothing.
Barbara Ackerly, quilter and clothing designer, lives in Cortland, NY. Barbara began sewing at age 7 and has never stopped. She started by making her own clothing. As an adult she worked in an undergarment factory. Later she took up quilting starting with a diamond patterned quilt; she jokes that the material was of poor quality and not quilt appropriate.
An avid hand quilter, Barbara also uses only a home machine for quilting. She incorporates beads, crystals and metallic threads into many of her quilts. She collaborates with her grandson on her original patterns. Her clothing is amazingly stunning with incredible quilting and intricate beadwork. Barbara has won first and second place for many of her quilts in local and regional quilt shows. Her works have been displayed in galleries and travelled with the Hoffman challenge. She has also co-judged at the New York State Fair from 2008 up to this year.
