February 2010 Guild Meeting

The February meeting was our annual “Tie-In for Northeast Kids.” Over 20 quilt tops and backings were paired with battings graciously donated by the Gloversville Sewing Center. Guild members worked in groups to tie the quilts.  This is traditionally one of the more favored guild meetings as our members get the chance to visit with other members over a good old-fashioned quilt tying.  The tied quilts were taken home by volunteers who will finish the quilts by attaching the binding and bring them back to a future guild meeting where they will be collected and turned over to Northeast Parent & Child and given to a child in need.  The evening also included a short business meeting and members’ show & tell.

2010 Winter Blues Sit N’ Sew

Our first annual Winter Blues Sit N’ Sew is now history. And what a success it was!   Twenty-eight of our members participated.  Each worked on varying stages of their projects. Some brought sewing machines and pieced tops for themselves or for their own family and friends, others worked together to piece tops for Northeast Kids or for the Soldier Project, while others worked on hand quilting or sewing down binding on their finished quilts.  Everyone enjoyed the company of fellow quilters.  The location was great – parking was excellent and the facility was wonderful. Though it was a bit on the cool side, the sun was shining and many enjoyed taking a quick walk at lunch to the various restaurants downtown Schenectady has to offer.

January 2010 Guild Meeting

The Judging Study Group presented their recommendations for how the quilts should be judged for the upcoming Autumn Inspriations 2010 quilt show. As in the past, the quilts will be judged (scored) against “excellence.”  However, categories on the judging sheet were revised to account for new techniques and innovations in quilting.  Also, guild members were treated to ‘mini workshops’ including a new technique for painting on fusible webbing, making yo-yo sewing cases and a viewing of the CNN video highlighting our Soldier Quilt Project.   The evening also included a dazzling display of members’ Show & Tell.

December 2009 Guild Meeting

This meeting was our annual holiday celebration.   After a short business meeting and a wonderful display of Show & Tell, the games began.  Q.U.I.L.T.S. members enjoyed a game called QUILT, which is a form of  BINGO – complete with prizes!    The game was interrupted by a visit from Philip Morris, who shared stories and jokes with the group.  Philip then transformed into Santa and went table to table with a present for everyone – a pair of snips.   The snips were timely, as our next activity was to make pinwheel ornaments using them.    And, of course, our holiday party isn’t complete with out those delicious desserts members brought to share.   It was a fun-filled evening – one which our members are still talking about!  Our special thanks go to the program committee for a wonderful Holiday Party.
