May 2010 Guild Meeting
QUILTS members were treated to a presentation by the Capital Region Textile Artists (CRTA). CRTA is a group of art quilters from the Capital District who have been meeting regularly for several years. They presented two “slice quilts” – one being the skyline of Albany, the other Troy. The group worked separately and together on the making of these extraordinary quilts and were happy to share the process of making them and describe the different techniques used. CRTA also presented a trunk show of some of their other marvelous works.

April 2010 Guild Meeting
Even though it was March 25th, this was our April Guild Meeting.  The meeting was held at the Education Center located at Proctors Theatre. Pamela Druhen, a well-known quilter and designer from Northfield, Vermont, presented a trunk show of her work. Guild members were treated to a wonderful display of Pam’s landscapes and other quilts which showcased her beautiful thread painting techniques. The following day, Pam taught a “Vermont Windows” workshop which was attended by approximately a dozen guild members.

March 2010 Guild Meeting
Diana Marshall from Gloversville Sewing Center spoke at our meeting about sewing machine maintence and the importance of using the proper threads and needles for our sewing projects. Did you know that 2 bobbins equals approximately 3 hours of sewing time?  How often do you change the needle in your sewing machine? What type of needle should you use? How often do you oil your machine? Should you use the same thread in your bobbin as that which you are using to sew with? What types of thread create a need for you to adjust your tension? Diana’s talk created a lot of “oohs” and “aahs” from the membership, as well as opened a lot of eyes.Â
Also, Paul and Stephanie Naused from Shear Saavy were present to sharpen scissors. Our members took advantage of this service and over 30 pairs of scissors were sharpened that evening.Â
The evening’s display of Show & Tell also garnered several “oohs” and “aahs” from the membership.

February 2010 Guild Meeting
The February meeting was our annual “Tie-In for Northeast Kids.” Over 20 quilt tops and backings were paired with battings graciously donated by the Gloversville Sewing Center. Guild members worked in groups to tie the quilts. This is traditionally one of the more favored guild meetings as our members get the chance to visit with other members over a good old-fashioned quilt tying. The tied quilts were taken home by volunteers who will finish the quilts by attaching the binding and bring them back to a future guild meeting where they will be collected and turned over to Northeast Parent & Child and given to a child in need.  The evening also included a short business meeting and members’ show & tell.
